BEIRUT AND THE BECKONING SEA

I took these photos in Beirut, in the summer of 2018.

The Raoucheh sea-front promenade is located in West Beirut. During summertime, young men from the lower classes come to swim and dive here. They challenge each other to impress the tourists and other locals. I wanted, not only to capture the diving, immortalised many times already, but also the camaraderie, allowing a certain strangeness to emerge from some of these photos. This resulted in a solo exhibition at Paul & Rimbaud Café in Paris in November 2018. I also shot two short videos: Beirut and the Beckoning Sea and Before the End
